Hello all,

We have been moving at light speed and accomplishing too much to even update users with all the progress we've made, although Frank has been working on an upcoming newsletter. Smile

I wanted to make a quick post letting users know that there may be bouts of "offline for maintenance" while we push forward aggressively to overcome growing pains. Still, these periods of upgrades and maintenance should still be few and short-lived, but issues may arise that keep the service offline longer than expected.

Since we are out of time, due to several reasons beyond our control, we have to forgo the luxury of some degree of notice. In an ideal world, nothing would ever change and the service would never need to be taken offline. We have been at that point for the past couple of years, steadily humming along, but we have been preparing for the upcoming migrations during that entire time. Now the time is here and much work needs to be done.

Therefore, this update is to let users know what is going on, if you see the "Offline for Maintenance" message. We will not be making individual announcements and we may take the service offline for short periods during the day (since we have many many users across the globe and it is daytime somewhere for some of you!). With our service being so widely accepted across the globe, there is no longer a "good" time and we have just as many foreign users as USA-based users.

No refunds will be provided during this time, as it would defeat the purpose of moving forward quickly. Giving each user a few pennies costs us far more in terms of time, so we're asking everyone to just be patient as we work diligently to improve the service and know that what you get in return will be the best of the best in screenshot automation.

Best regards,

Brandon

The purpose of the maintenance window from last night was done in order to address several difficult to detect scenarios that caused HASH_MISMATCH errors. We have finally identified the cause, but the fix introduced a new problem that is related. However, I believe that we have that resolved as well and will be deploying the fix in the next hour or so.

Once this transition period is over, we will post an update to this thread so you will know when you should start expecting regular maintenance updates once again.

GEEK SPEAK
It appears that I have curbed 99.99% of the HASH_MISMATCH issues. The remaining HASH_MISMATCH do appear to be legitimately broken requests due to the following reasons:

  • The length of the submitted URL is greater than 255 characters
  • The URL contains IDN (International Domain Name) characters, also known as punycode, that are not currently supported

It may be possible for IDN's to work using urlencoding, but in general, they are not yet supported.

Within the next few months, once we get our generators migrated and upgraded to the next version of technology, then we will be in a position to finally introduce the support for IDN. We have had a solution ready for over a year, but we cannot implement it until we have the capacity to rebuild our entire capture cache from scratch.

Also, I have completed the addition of support for separate "LIVE Testing" of generators, which means it will be possible now to run "LIVE" tests without having to take the primary generators/service offline.

There may still be other reasons why we need to take the system offline for maintenance over the next few months, but generally speaking, the "generator testing" will eliminate the biggest reason we have been going into maintenance mode in recent days.
