Have a Plugin or Code Request?

If you have a plugin request, please post it here so that we can keep all requests in one place.

Thanks!

I'll start off this thread by requesting the following, if anyone has experience in building these:

    Toolbar Thumbnail Bookmarklet*

*I've seen this app written for a competitor and it sounded cool. Basically, just write a little app you can drag onto your browser to install into your bookmark toolbar. The app will automatically show thumbnails next to your bookmarks. Wink

Hi Brandon

I've just installed the WP plugin on one of my sites... and discovered that a pro feature I use quite a lot elsewhere is not available.

Specifically, the "inside" feature.

Is there ANY way pro users can use pro features with this plugin?

Perhaps by giving us an additional "code" to enter into the WP config screen to verify us, and then have extra options available?

Cheers
Stephen

Hi Stephen,

The &inside=1 feature for the wordpress plugin is not *technically* supported yet. However, you can do this (worked in testing) by adding &inside=1 into the URL of the javascript widget.

And on that note, he modified the php plugin code and it worked Smile

Don't know why he didn't think of that BEFORE he posted here!

Hello,

We use thumbnails a little differently. We currently use our own process with IECapt.exe and php. We would like to switch to ShrinkTheWeb.

In a summary we would like fresh images (about 400, adding a few every month) downloaded daily to a local folder on our site (so snapshot displayed are done so locally).

From what I understand here is what we need in more technical terms:
- A schedule php script that is triggered daily (or more often in smaller batchs)

- This script triggers the download of the images (real time? or delayed? what ever works better)

- Script renames the image files (the name is simply the URL with special characters removed)

- Script copies the image in the appropriate image folder (overwriting yesterday's images)

Optional features:
- Be able to FTP the image so this process can run on a different server.
- Keep $Y weekly backup of the images (erasing backups older then $X weeks). This is mostly if one of the snapshot failed and we want to avoid a blank snapshot. We would look in the backup folder for a previous week when the snapshot worked.

Note:
a) We currently use a "custom size x = 173
b) We do not want any white space if the site is 800px wide.
c) The list of URLs is retrieved from a db query

I guess my questions are:-

Can this be done with Shrink the web?
If yes:
- What feature of the Pro package would we need?
- Where could we get the "script" described above?

Thanks a lot,
Christophe

Hi Christophe,

We are glad that you are considering us to switch from another program. Please see my comments below:

Sample code for a lot of uses, such as PHP4, PHP5 are found here:

These are up to you. We have not posted nor have we seen anyone else post anything like this but it should be simple to do. Each case is different. You can simply delete an image each night and then call the sample code, which will re-download the image again, if available. Some users have a CDN and are able to use our "last modified" timestamps to determine whether a screenshot has been updated.

Note:
a) We currently use a "custom size x = 173

If you cannot use 200x150, then you would want "Custom Size" PRO feature. This will also cause all of your requests to be considered "new requests" and 400*31 days is more than your 5,000 per month as a free user but you get 25,000 per month as a PRO user (well under your stated requirements).

b) We do not want any white space if the site is 800px wide.

This would require our unique feature of "Custom Browser Resolution", whereby you can specify a request be captured at 800x600 instead of the default 1024x768. This is something you must control on your end as part of the request. Most users want the default 1024x768, so that is always the default resolution.

c) The list of URLs is retrieved from a db query

You would need to tie in a query to loop through the code that makes the request. There is a PHP5 class and a PHP4 function that makes this simpler.

Yes.

Since you mention getting the latest capture, you will want "Refresh On-Demand" PRO as well. So, total, you need:

1. Custom Size
2. Refresh On-Demand
3. Custom Browser Resolution [currently free in BETA upon request]

Those are all included in the ALL PRO package, which is scheduled to be discontinued by the end of this year.

The scripts are on the plugins page mentioned above. We have a couple of plugins that we have not had time to post yet but they are not for the tasks you require.

Cheers,

Brandon
